Official Battle School is a licensed trade mark- teaching modern self defense

Space is limited. Enroll now, or be placed on the wait list. Modern Self Defense takes what works.  It's about survival out in the real world.

In the Level 1 Apprentice Program, you will learn the core techniques of Battle School in a fun, safe, and cooperative environment.

Each lesson builds on top of the previously learned carefully chosen techniques. Battle School is our adult program designed to take a normal person from 0 -100 as fast as possible. Each one-hour lesson addresses one standing, ground, or weapon self-defense technique. You can start the program at any time. Participate in any class without previous experience.  Since safety is our number one concern, there is no competitive sparring in this program until higher levels when YOU are ready. Upon successful completion of the Battle School Apprentice Level 1 Program, we will promote you to Journeyman Level 2 and you will qualify for advancement in the program.

Level 1 has three days per week.  Try to make all three; however, if you cannot we will revisit the techniques multiple times. This is the beauty of having a rotating curriculum.

If you are picky about your martial arts, tired of martial arts making big claims then falling short, this is for you.
If you’re unsure about trying martial arts training for fear of injury, embarrassment, or any other reason, then the Battle School program is for you.

Our instructors conduct all classes in a cooperative training environment. They are committed to ensuring that every new student has an informative, enjoyable experience regardless of age, gender, or athletic ability.

Although Battle School consists of many techniques, studies of real fights have shown that certain techniques have been used more often and with greater success than all the other techniques combined.  You need absolutely no experience to start this program.

Step 1: Learn the Techniques
We have divided the Battle School techniques into one-hour classes so that you can complete the course at your own pace. We designed each lesson so that you can start at any point in the course on that level. As a result, you can complete the lessons in any order.

Upon enrolling,  we will track your progress every step of the way. These were chosen from the most common ways you will encounter a violent threat.

Step 2: Develop Your Reflexes
Once you complete each of the Battle School lessons and test, you will qualify to participate in the Journeymen Classes.  There you will learn how to combine the techniques to address the most common occurrences in a real fight.

Step 3: Earn Your Ranks
Once you complete each of the Battle School lessons and completed training at a higher level, you are eligible to test for promotion! We will administer a test to assess your ability to execute the essential SDS techniques individually and in combination. If your performance meets Battle School standards, you will qualify for promotion and be allowed to attend our Journeyman program where weapon survival is introduced.

We Know Grappling for one on one with no weapons works amazingly well. We compete in Brazilian Jiu JItsu regularly. We are aware of the amazing game that it is and the many ways it can be a superior art; however, with Knives, Guns, Sticks and Multiple attacker scenarios going to the ground may not always be the best choice.

The best way to ANTI-Grappling is to be good at grappling. Battle School has an emphases on a street style:  including Blade, Gun, and Multiple attacker scenarios. For a combat sport, Jiu JItsu is amazing and must be trained. We will be launching this in the next few months. Pre requisite is Apprentice Level completed.

According to the FBI in 2009, there were 57,268 sworn law enforcement officers assaulted in the line of duty. The largest percentage of victim officers (32.6) were assaulted during disturbance calls (family quarrels, bar fights, etc.). Of the assaults, 81.4 percent (46,616) were committed by unarmed perpetrators who only used their personal weapons (hands, fists, feet, etc.) to assault the officer. A problem well understood is a problem half solved.

An encounter between a Military/Law Enforcement professional and bad guy is vastly different from an MMA match. Yet, some Combatives /Defensive Tactics programs taught by professional martial artists make no distinction.

Our techniques we use have been proven time and time again in actual combat by US military troops deployed globally. The program was developed and refined over nearly 20 years based on these three truths:

1. The bad guy always has the ambush advantage.

In the Battle School program, we teach simple, effective, sudden assault defense strategies that enable you to neutralize the threat and achieve a position of advantage while minimizing injury to yourself and the bad guy.

In a real fight, there is no referee to start or to stop when you are getting assaulted. There are no weight classes, time limits, or rules to save you either. Only the bad guy knows when and how he will attack. Any time you are close enough to conduct a pat-down, or to exchange documents, you are close enough to be ambushed.

2. Never grapple with the bad guy by choice.

Our philosophy is simple: "Learn how to fight on the ground, so you don’t have to."
If you enter into a "grappling match" with the bad guy, you put yourself in great danger since the bad guy could take your weapons and use them against you. If, however, the fight goes to the ground against your will, you must know what to do. In the Battle School program, we teach time-tested escape techniques that can be used to get you off the ground and back to your feet so you can establish distance and utilize the appropriate force option to neutralize the threat. We also feature a series of leverage-based weapon retention principles you can apply in any grappling scenario

3. In a street fight, there is no "tap-out."
In MMA and Sport Jiu Jitsu matches the tap-out works immediately; in a fight for your life against someone who wants to injure or kill you, a tap-out will not save you. For Military and Law Enforcement professionals, we understand that victory isn’t achieved until you neutralize the threat apprehending the bad guy. In the Battle School program we have devised a series of simple, yet reliable,  procedures you can use.
